Wisconsin and Minnesota just delivered two very different messages to the Democratic Party — and the hot takes are already flying. Danielle Moodie joins Wajahat Ali to break down the 2026 Wisconsin and Minnesota primary results and challenge the simplistic narratives emerging from the political establishment and corporate media. In Wisconsin, moderate David Crowley narrowly defeated progressive Democrat Francesca Hong in a race that polls had suggested Hong was favored to win. In Minnesota, progressive Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan defeated moderate Rep. Angie Craig in the Democratic Senate primary.

So what actually happened? Was Wisconsin a rejection of progressive politics? Does Minnesota prove the progressive movement is surging? Or are both interpretations missing the bigger story? We examine what these results reveal about Democratic voters, progressive politics, the establishment, young voters, the 2026 midterms, and the growing demand for political change. Recent analysis suggests the results don't fit neatly into a simple “left vs. center” story: voters across several states appear to be demanding change, while the strength of progressive candidates varies significantly from race to race
