Racism Obama Faces

Here's a 2/11/08 Newsweek article "Can Muslim Smear Hurt Obama?"

This is the racism that I've been talking about since day one that Obama is going to have to seriously contend with. I'm sure he knows that of course but it's very important that we all prepare ourselves for the worse. This article is scary because it's true: many white Americans (and i might add a significant number of Latinos and Asian Americans as well--let's be completely honest here) are not only not going to vote for Obama because of the color of his skin but like this writer justly points most of these racists are going to use all kinds of surrogate excuses--like religious smears and lies--to try to obscure the fact that they would never support a black man for president in the first place.
